Q & A with Sarah

IW: What would you do during a typical day?

SARAH: Get up early to exercise, pack my daughters school lunch, depending on the time of year possibly feed potty calves or go around calving cows before 7.30, when I then get my daughter up and off to school. Try to arrive at the office between 8.45- 9am. Check emails and get and paperwork ready needed for the day’s appointments. These could consist of showing properties, appraisals, getting Sale Authorities signed or majority in the office doing write ups, Sale Authorities, and other marketing.

IW: How did you get into this industry?

SARAH: I always wanted to be in real estate, however another opportunity arose at my favourite magazine, so I was there 9 years in sales and marketing, before I perused my real estate goal.

I went and did my agents rep course, to try and help me get started, approached the 2 real estate offices in my small town, however none had room for an admin, or new agent or anything. So then applied for real estate jobs in neighbouring towns, but then when I got my interview, let them know I didn’t want to be working there fulltime, but that I saw a real opportunity in my hometown for a motivated / modern day agent to come in and shake things up. Eventually I found an employer willing to give it a go and they opened an office in Casterton. That’s where it all began!

IW: What do you enjoy most about your job?

SARAH:  I love seeing young people having a go in life, really working hard, being driven, chasing their dreams, so I love it when I have first home buyers smashing out their goals and dreams, getting their little slice of the Australian Dream – to own their own home. I also love the highs and the lows, that every day is different, and the challenges faced are always different with new learning experiences.

IW: What is the most challenging part of your job?

SARAH:   I’m not sure what the most challenging part is, I love the challenges (even though sometimes they have me pulling my hair out). For every sale that falls over or person that says no to a house, I’m one step closer to a yes! That’s often what I say to myself to avoid getting stuck in the disappointment.

IW: What advice would you give others that are looking to move into this industry?

SARAH:  Whatever you want to do in life, give it your best shot, because one day you will look back and wish you would have given it a shot and it may just be too late then.
