Denyse McPhail, Harcourts Fiji

The transition from being an accomplished International Ice Figure Skater to achieving remarkable success in the real estate industry might seem like a considerable leap, but Denyse McPhail has navigated this journey effortlessly. Her professional journey commenced with a role in product advisory and sales at Adidas International, where she dedicated over a decade of her career. Throughout this period, she also amassed an extensive understanding of property investments. Given her background, transitioning into real estate was a natural step for her, allowing her to merge an exhilarating business career with the responsibilities of raising her three daughters.

With a career spanning more than two decades, Denyse recently commemorated her 20th anniversary with Harcourts, and she takes immense pride in remaining an integral part of the Harcourts International team. Over a decade ago, Denyse decided to make Fiji her permanent residence, a place that held familiarity for her and her daughters. Both generations had spent a significant portion of their formative years in Fiji, although they commuted to New Zealand for schooling and university. Beyond her commitments to business and family, Denyse also dedicates substantial time and effort to support Children's Charity Organizations across Fiji, reflecting her profound passion.

We had the opportunity to speak with Denyse to learn a bit more about her.

Q & A with Denyse

IW: What would you do during a typical day?

DENYSE: A typical day is to get up early, review your plan, know that it will change, be prepared for that, and give it everything you can!  I know something every day will happen for a reason. The most typical days which are consistent for me are a memory, a success, a learning experience and a great glass of Shiraz at the end of the day!

IW: How did you get into this industry?

DENYSE: I met Paul Wright, Robert McCormack, Peter Green and Stephen Collins!  Saying “no” was not even an option! Then the Harcourts family and my network just kept growing, I knew I was in the right place!

IW: What do you enjoy most about your job?

DENYSE:  The fact that its suits my multi-tasking personality! It’s a talent that becomes a skill. It’s not a job it’s an ability to share, mentor, motivate linking all with my family, friends, community and industry.

IW: What is the most challenging part of your job?

DENYSE:  Remembering that you can’t mentally, or physically do 24/7 as much as you think you can. The challenge is always taking the time to take ‘me time’ recharge and refresh. Getting better at that!

IW: What advice would you give others that are looking to move into this industry?

DENYSE: Make a plan, stick to your values and those that value you.
