Q & A with Lauren McCorkindale of Harcourts Unite

IW: What would you do during a typical day?

LAUREN: I always like to start my day with a gym session and a coffee, I find it helps me feel energized and ready for the day ahead. I have a diverse range of tasks in my daily routine. My day can consist of processing contracts and following up with solicitors regarding contract conditions, Auction preparation, social media and assisting agents and our business owners with a range of tasks. It’s great to have such a varied role that keeps me engaged. Oh and no day ever ends the way that I plan.

IW: How did you get into this industry?

LAUREN: I started in 2015 as a personal assistant to a top agent at Harcourts Solutions. It was a great way to gain valuable experience and learn the ropes of the industry.

IW: What do you enjoy most about your job?

LAUREN: Working with a supportive and fun team makes a big difference. The dynamic nature of real estate, where each day can bring new challenges and opportunities, keeps things interesting and ensures continuous learning.

IW: What is the most challenging part of your job?

LAUREN: Working with so many agents with different personality types can be a challenge. Each person has their unique traits and communication styles, which can sometimes lead to conflicts or misunderstandings if you aren’t willing to be an active listener, change your communication style to suit, be flexible and adapt – this was one of the most important learnings in my role.

IW: What advice would you give others that are looking to move into this industry?

LAUREN: If you’re looking to move into real estate, I would recommend doing some research and understanding the industry. Real estate offers a wide range of career paths. Administration can serve as a valuable stepping stone into the industry. It allows you to gain exposure to different aspects of the field and understand the inner workings of real estate. Firsthand experience can help you make informed decisions about which specific area of real estate, such as sales or property management, you’d like to explore further.
