Here is a little insight into a day in the life of a top finance consultant.

Q & A with Christine Penford of Mortgage Express

IW: What would you do during a typical day?

CHRISTINE: Every day I am working with existing and prospective clients, to determine the best lending solutions to meet their unique financial circumstances. Lender policies change constantly, upskilling, and workshopping challenging files to obtain a positive outcome for my clients is a daily activity.

It’s important I put time aside each day to focus on business growth and retention, this might be as simple as a few phone calls to existing clients and referral partners to maintain relationships or developing and improving business practices and service offerings.

IW: How did you get into this industry?

CHRISTINE: I finished my studies in teaching and decided soon after that this was not my forever path. I was in my early 20s and my best friend was working at Aussie Home Loans, as we did most things together, she organised an interview and I started my brokering journey with Aussie. Two years later I decided to go out on my own, 24 years later and I am still brokering.

IW: What do you enjoy most about your job?

CHRISTINE: I love the challenge that comes with making difficult files work. Helping my clients realise their dream in property and financial wealth is one of the most rewarding parts of my job, a client buying their first home or next family home, first investment property or sharpening one’s financial position keeps me excited about my job.

IW: What is the most challenging part of your job?

CHRISTINE: It never stops!

IW: What advice would you give others that are looking to move into this industry?

CHRISTINE: Mortgage brokering is a fabulous industry to get into, if you enjoy working hard, you are honest, are organised, enjoying learning, are proactive and are not scared to put yourself out there, give it ago. Back yourself!!
